Life The Rose

Life, the rose.
Velvet petals and intoxicating scent.
Colourful hues lay nestled amongst the tangled tresses of stem,
leaf and thorn.
If you cut the flower from the stem, it withers in despair.
Much as I would, separated from those I love.

You.

Concealed eyes regard you
Reclining there
Upon your chair.
Sedately posed
Hair pushed back away from your face
Eyes staring out into space.
Legs stretched out
Fingers tapping
Your thoughts they're mapping.

We watch, and wonder, always asking that infernal question:
What goes on in that mind of yours?
