The Librarian's: The Beginning

Alvin

"The more you do that, the longer we'll be here," I said looking over at her. "It doesn't like to be rushed."

I groaned, stepped back. "Not this thing too!" Seriously? Was /everything/ animated here? "Do you have a phone? Call for help!"

Alvin

I looked at her with a "you gotta be kidding me" look and just rolled my eyes. "Tell it your sorry."

"Right, last time I talked to an inanimate object you mocked me. Just call for help." I paced, uneasy.

Alvin

"I didn't mock, I laughed. And only because the door doesn't listen, the elevator on the other hand likes apologies and compliments. It used to be a very prestigious elevator you know. First elevator in the Hilton hotels."

I shot him a mistrustful look and sighed, edging closer too the door. "...Hey... all mighty elevator... I'm sorry." I pet the door, cheeks turning red.

Alvin

I attempted to hide a smirk as I watched her. There was a creak before the elevator jolted and started again, going down at it's happy, slow pace as always. "Told you. It's sensitive."

I rolled my eyes, dropping my hand and stepping back. "What here /isn't/ animated?"

Alvin

I thought for a moment and took a deep breath. "The front desk, and the shelves in the library. None of the books. The lions out front are though."

I shuffled uneasily. "Logically, none of this makes sense. How do you just accept it?"

Alvin

I paused and looked at her. "I didn't," I said with a shrug as we finally came to a halt and stepped out of the elevator. "I am twenty-four, have seven majors, all of them in history, archeology, literature, science. None of this should be possible. But.. .after about the fourth time of touching an artifact and my first near death experience I realized this wasn't just some surreal..fairy tale thing where I could wake up and be okay. I realized this was real, if I get hurt, I bleed. I die..I don't wake up." I glanced at her and started forward again. "Is there a particular reason you wanted to come down here?"

His words struck a cord, because I've been expecting to wake up from this to find myself on a plan, landing in Rome. But not even /I/ could dream up something this fantastic. "I just wanted to look around. Alone. You don't have to stay. I'll just promise the elevator sex and it'll bring me back up.'

Alvin

I watched her for a moment then rolled my eyes. "I'll be in the office, just in case you decide to touch things again. Don't go anywhere near the dark vault. Okay?"

"Sure, stay away from creepy vaults. Got it." I strode off, intent on finding the objects I researched. Like that sword for one.

Alvin

I went to the office and turned on the computer, watching her move through the place as a little red dot on the screen. Now I could keep an eye on her.

I walked around, studying any object of interest till I found myself upon the tennis racket from this morning. Frowning, I nudged it with my shoe. Nothing. "Huh... Must just need skin..." I kicked it a little, feeling light hearted, and started back on my way.

Excalibur was zipping through the aisles. It stopped when it caught sight of her and started for her, wanting to cut her off so she couldn't leave the aisle she was in.

I heard a whistling through the air and looked up in confusion. My eyes widened and With barrerly a second to spare, I ducked, clambering to the side of my hands and knees and jumping back up. "You." I said accusingly, pointing at it. "Stop trying to behead me."

The sword came to a stop at the end of the aisle and faced her again. It danced mockingly and pointed at her, getting ready to charge again.

I held my ground, staring it down. "Excalibur..." I drew out his name, speaking to him like a dog. "St-ay."

The sword paused and swung like it was wagging or something, but inched forward just a bit, testing her.

I had a theory. This thing, like a dog, liked to play games. This was a game. It wasn't going to hurt me. ...I hoped. I held my ground and raised a brow, crossing my arms.

It continued to inch forward, picking up speed, but when she didn't move it came to a halt and just seemed to sort of stare at her. It waved around threateningly and danced around her, trying to get her to run.

I grinned a little, pleased that I was right. I reached out and gingerly patted it. "Good boy." I stepped around it and kept exploring, curious if it would follow.

Of course, it did follow, trying to scare her and get her to run. When she didn't it just floated beside her with a bit of a sad, defeated air about it.
